Glasshouse Salon – Organic & Eco-friendly Hairdressers

I’ve always felt that when you’re having a big life change or starting a new chapter in life, it is obligatory to get a new hair cut. To me it symbolises shaking things up a bit, and making a fresh start. So, back in August when I was getting ready to move to  Bali I decided I needed to take some time out for myself and get a hair cut. I was researching London salons that were vegan and cruelty-free and I was really pleased to come across Glasshouse Salon in East London.

When I called up and spoke with Lucy from the team, she wowed me with its environmentally friendly policies, and I thought I had to give it a try! Glasshouse Salon uses all natural, vegan and organic products, and focuses on methods and products that minimise the use of synthetic and chemical ingredients. HELL YES, that’s what i’m all about!

The Vibe

The ethos at the salon is “uncomplicated hair through care & craft” which I totally love. Glasshouse Salon has a super cute vibe, with vines and tropical plants decorating the space. The space itself is quite cosy and minimalist, with a smidge of hipster about it.

I had a detailed consultation with Senior Stylist Ashleigh, and decided to go all in with a cut, colour and protein mask treatment. One of my favourite things about a haircut is the chill time, I absolutely loved reading  Grazia  and drinking an insta-worthy matcha latte. The dreamy down time that I needed! The Matcha I ordered came served up in this gorgeous Matcha bowl set by Bikis Ceramics which you can here on the Glasshouse website.

The Experience

I had a really great cut and decided to get a Balayage colour too. I’ve had my natural colour for a year or so now, and fancied mixing it up a bit. I’m really happy with the colour as it’s nice and subtle, but really freshened up my look. As lightening your hair requires stripping some of the protein,  I had a super nourishing protein treatment to put the protein and umph back into my hair. It smelt incredible and my hair has stayed in great condition despite the colour treatment.

Glasshouse Principles

One of the reasons I decided to visit the glass house salon is because of its environmentally friendly credentials. Standard hairdressers are full of chemical products, chemical fumes and horrible products that aren’t good for your skin of the environment. Have you ever stopped to think what happens to all the chemicals that are washed down the drain when you shower every day? These chemicals may disappear from view, however where they end up is damaging to the environment. By choosing to limit the synthetic chemicals you use, and sticking to natural and sustainable products you will make a difference.

Glasshouse Salon - Organic Hair Products

At Glasshouse Salon only cruelty-free, organic and eco-friendly products are used, and it makes all the difference. The products feel and smell luxurious, and you don’t get the usual chemical smell from the dyes and sprays. Glasshouse also stock some of the fab hair products they use (hello O&M organic!), and also makeup & skincare. There are awesome makeup brands such as RMS, Jane Iredale and ILIA available. I tried out a few products, and treated myself to an RMS concealer which is lovely and creamy with a great coverage I would actually really recommend the cream concealer. Post-salon visit, I hopped on the bus a few stops to visit the famous Temple of Seitan for a sneaky bite to eat. It was super tasty and I even managed to find room for their fudge brownie!

All in all, I would definitely recommend The Glasshouse Salon for those of you who are keen to vote with your wallet and be a more conscious consumer. I love supporting businesses that are environmentally friendly!
